New Museum of Bavarian history —— Hall of fame in Regensburg
2021-05-17
New Museum of Bavarian history—is located along the Danube River in Regensburg, Germany. It is near to the cathedral and is a local landmark. In order to demonstrate the architectural features of modern Bavarian cities in the highly sensitive environment of Regensburg, the architects of this new museum faced great challenges at the beginning of its design.
City Beauty: open urban space
The main entrance of the museum is located in the west, facing the Regensburg cathedral. The use of large cantilever structure creates a multi-dimensional composite main entrance space, so that the overall height of the museum is raised. There is an open and flexible transitional public square outside the museum. Although it has a huge volume, it does not hinder the exchange of the city, but deepens the connection with the city. The irregular roof landscape is in the shape of a cut surface, which acts as a skylight to add necessary indirect light sources to the indoor exhibition hall. The building formed by a series of rectangles looks like a whole, which fits well with the outline of the medieval architecture of Regensburg.
▲The ground floor is public. Residents and visitors of the town can walk through the hall on the first floor of the museum to reach the bank of the Danube.
People in the city can clearly see three famous Bavaria slang words on the three-story glass windows from a distance of the museum: "MIA San MIA", "OIS Chicago" and "ozapft is". Tourists can clear feel the Bavaria people's yearning attitude towards a better life.
The first floor of the museum is a huge leisure activity space, which includes a cafe, a main entrance space, and a permanent exhibition hall that shows visitors the history of Bavaria. Its area is 2500 square meters; the second floor includes permanent exhibition hall, temporary exhibition hall and training center bavariathek, etc. In addition, a permanent exhibition hall is placed on the top space of the museum with a huge roof, which is divided into several small spaces by an orthogonal partition wall. There are machinery and equipment rooms on the two underground floors, which are noise-proof and isolated from the public space of the museum.
▲Prominent horizontal facade: The Bavarian-style Bavariathek is a composite building with a unique style.
▲Vertical facade: The shell of the sculptural building structure consists of a ceramic material.
▲When visitors stand inside the museum and look out, they can enjoy the winding landscape of the city and Regensburg cathedral.
Historical continuity: rich cultural display
Bavarian history museum not only expresses the continuity of history through the design of architectural structure, but also represents the national confidence of Bavarian people since Wittelsbach. The irregular plane of the museum depicts the streets and squares of Regensburg. The central hall of the museum is designed as a city square with a glass roof, which is enclosed by the facade. The upper part also has the typical details of Regensburg architecture.
The facade of the museum is made of light gray vertical ceramic slats, which makes it stand out from the historical environment. Its color is lime gray, which is a kind of respect to the Roman wall, a cross-border ruin that is next to it. Large transparent glass and expanded metal elements, the roof made of hot-dip galvanized metal is in the shape of terrazzo, the design of mineral slate and pebble stone carpets and bright stucco walls all give people a special temperament. The design uses modern technology to create a "new monumentality".
The museum uses contemporary technology to repair this medieval city along the Danube River. It showcases the connotation of the museum with its harmonious appearance, open public space, and rich culture. It has become a cohesive cultural center in a city.

Hörmann Schörghuber star products Crystal white and ruby
The Museum of Bavarian History in Regensburg is also rather subtle in terms of colours: As such, the doors that Schörghuber supplied in the administrative area also bear the architects’ favourite colour: crystal white. These are primarily fire-rated and smoke-tight doors with a wide range of equipment features, but also security doors and acoustic-rated doors, with and without burglar protection. Many of them are fitted with Fineline frames, featuring an extremely elegant visible face measuring just 6 millimetres.
Yet another feature: Some of the frames are executed without a crosspiece. Instead, the transom panel assumes this function. Also crystal white: the T30 fire-rated and smoke-tight recess doors with floor closers that blend seamlessly into the walls. But not all the products are crystal white. Several routes in the ground floor are entirely ruby red – ceilings, walls, floors – including the doors from Schörghuber.
▲Crystal white: the doors to the administrative area on the second floor of the museum as well as next door in the foyer of the Bavariathek.
▲Ruby red: in some spaces and passages, Hörmann Skubomen adopts ruby red to correspond to the main color of the ceiling, wall, floor and so on.
